At Valle Talloria d'Alba, the Giordano family has been producing classic wines since 1900. At the beginning the work was done by Ferdinando, the current chairman's grandfather, who after some years was joined by his son Giovanni. The range and quantity of the wines were limited, of course, and the bottles produced were reserved for but few, regular customers.

The 1930s witnessed the first important advance, with the enlargement of the structures and the purchase of new vineyards. But it was not until 1950 (thanks to the work and resourcefulness of Giuseppe and Ferdinando Giordano, respectively Giovanni's brother and son) that the first leap in quality came about and the family-run firm became a true and proper dynamic enterprise.

Other farms with vineyards were purchased in some of the best vine-growing areas of the Langhe; the vinification and storage cellars were enlarged; the range of wines offered to customers was widened; warehouse space and the logistics network were expanded.

In the early 1980s Gianni Giordano joined his father and helped to spur further growth for the company. The vinification and bottling plants were completely renewed and equipped with leading-edge technologies, new lines and trademarks were created, productive and commercial strategies became ever more marketing-oriented.

Over recent years the company's growth rate has speeded up considerably: Giordano has consolidated its position in Italy and notably increased its exports. In order better to meet growing market demand, both the oenological and the marketing staff have been increased and new investments have been set aside to increase productive capacity and, by inserting wines from other regions, the assortment of wines.

This was the reason for the purchase of the new winery at Torricella, near Taranto, where, as of the 1998 harvest, the Puglia and Salento D.O.C. and I.G.T. wines are produced; obtained from grapes that, thanks to the highly favorable climatic conditions, present excellent qualitative potential.

Today, Giordano is one of Italy's most important wine companies. Despite its phenomenal growth, the company has remained a family-run operation. In over 100 years of work, four generations have taken up the reins of running the company, respecting the mission of continuing to improve the quality of the product and customer service while respecting the traditions and philosophy of the Giordano family.
